January 2012
Greetings and Happy New Year!
Many of you are initiating a
new plan (New Year’s Resolutions) to make 2012 your best
year ever in real estate. You’ve taken time to reflect on
what works and what doesn’t; what buyers and sellers want in
the current market; and made a conscious decision to change
your behavior to make a difference. Unfortunately, well
intentioned plans fall by the wayside and within a few weeks
many of us return to our old routines. Here are some simple
steps to help ensure a successful completion of your plan
for change in 2012.
Step 1 – Identify a goal that
is concrete and achievable.
My goal is to increase my use of social media as part of my
communication strategy in selling real estate.
Step 2 – Narrow the focus to
concentrate effort.
I plan to focus on my knowledge and skill in using Facebook
as an effective communication tool.
Step 3 – Develop a plan.
I’ve made a list of things to find out about when using
Facebook… how it works and can be best used as a
communication tool in real estate. My plan also needs a
time management component to visit Facebook on a regular
basis.
Step 4 – Take small bites.
For me it will be to schedule time with a person that is
knowledgable in how Facebook operates. This time will need
to be spread out over a period of weeks or months and may
include a formal class.
Step 5 – Understand change is
a process. My plan
includes the development of a new routine. My work on
FaceBook will become part of my preparation time as I start
early each morning.
Step 6 – Don’t let a stumble
bring you down.
Setbacks are going to happen. Distractions are going to
occur. The key for me will be to return to the new routine
and continue to stretch my understanding of how FaceBook can
become an effective communication tool working in the
profession of real estate.
Step 7 – Get support from
friends and family.
For me it will be colleagues in the real estate office who
are already proficient in using FaceBook as well as my
children who tell me it will be a snap to use!

Step 8 – Renew your
motivation. I plan
to include regular meetings with colleagues who are
confident and currently using FaceBook as an effective
communication tool in real estate. Attending a class for
new ideas throughout the year will also be beneficial.
Best wishes to all for a
successful 2012!
